Modernising Charité University Hospital

The new hospital project comprised a five-story cube-shaped building connected to a renovated ward building via a steel-and-glass bridge. The cube features cost-efficient thermal insulation and an inner courtyard for natural lighting, with skylights in key areas like operating theatres. The ward building, stripped to its core, was redeveloped with reinforced concrete steel in a bulkhead design, adhering to the original ground plan due to budget and structural constraints. The ground floor entrance hall and forecourt were redesigned for a more open, public-friendly space.

Our general contractor oversaw the project, ensuring functional and medical efficacy through collaboration with various stakeholders. Innovative solutions were implemented for logistical challenges, such as managing patient movement during construction to maintain hospital operations.

Our team ensured strategic equipment placement for optimal use and accessibility, and provided staff training on equipment use and maintenance. Our detailed approach in sourcing and installation aimed to create a functional, efficient, and patient-friendly hospital environment.
